Cozy, delicious, and idyllic to boot—Plötners Café on Anton-Saefkow-Platz is a true insider tip for connoisseurs and anyone who loves homemade baked goods.
Anton-Saefkow-Platz 1, daily from 9am-6pm
Cheesecake – without a base. Katja Plötner explains that this specialty has won her family several awards for it. The title of "Cheesecake King of Berlin and Brandenburg" can be 'tested' at their café on Anton-Saefkow-Platz in Lichtenberg. Every day, the Plötner family offers cakes, tortes, homemade waffles, and fresh baked goods. The latter comes directly from her parents' bakery across the street. This makes the Plötner Café a true family business.
The idea was born in 2008. Katja Plötner had just finished her apprenticeship when the space across the street from the family bakery became available. Seventeen years later, the trained hotel manager still enjoys coming to work here every day, treating mainly regulars and tourists to homemade dishes.
Idyll and coziness in the heart of Berlin
When asked why Katja Plötner particularly likes her neighborhood, the answer isn't difficult: "It's a quiet place, right in the middle of Berlin." As a Berliner, she really appreciates that there are no cars in front of her café, and instead, she can hear the birdsong from the nearby Fennpfuhl Park. After all, the café's outdoor area seats up to 100 people. But the interior is also really cozy after a renovation at the beginning of the year. "We've created a hut atmosphere here," explains the 38-year-old.
This makes the café ideal for parties and family celebrations on site.
Homemade and like at home
Three trained chefs take care of your culinary needs, preparing everything from cabbage rolls, black pudding with sauerkraut, fish, and, in season, fresh asparagus, just like at home. In the morning, enjoy a delicious sandwich with avocado and poached egg, or a romantic breakfast with a glass of sparkling wine. And in the afternoon, on hot days, ice cream from a Charlottenburg ice cream factory is especially delicious, alongside homemade cakes, tarts, and waffles.
Luckily, with so much choice, Plötners Café is open seven days a week!
